Our Commitment to the Environment
Tikehau Activités aims to help preserve our atoll as a whole and respect its cultural values.
Tourism is an essential economic activity for Polynesia and, more recently, for Tikehau. We believe that its development must allow visitors seeking authenticity to discover our wonderful riches while simultaneously focusing on the preservation and enhancement of our environment and culture, so that they can be passed down to future generations through a sustainable development project. Our commitments are many.
Our actions for the environment:
Support for Environmental Preservation Associations
Welcome Scientific Missions
Profits donated to conservation efforts
Conserve coral
Coral reef preservation through the use of moorings to avoid damaging corals with anchors. We emphasize to our excursion participants that they use coral-friendly sunscreens and/or UV-protective clothing.
No Shark & Ray feeding
Refusal of shark and ray feeding practices: The Pays N°2017-25 law, enacted to preserve the balance of the marine ecosystem.
Animal tranquility
Respect for animal approach techniques: we encourage visitors to observe marine wildlife without disturbing it by raising awareness of the attitudes to respect.
Waste Management
lPlastic pollution is a global scourge that also threatens our waters. During our excursions, we strive to produce the minimum amount of non-degradable waste and practice sorting for recycling.
Awareness
Raising awareness among our visitors about the harmful effects of certain sunscreens on coral reefs by encouraging them to protect themselves from the sun with UV-protective clothing like rash guards, hats, or caps. We also advise them to choose sunscreens with environmental labels recognized by the Agency for Ecological Transition and to wait 30 minutes after applying sunscreen before swimming.
But beyond these rules of good conduct, we have committed to donating a large portion of our profits to a non-profit organization., The A.Mi.S Association of Tikehau which aims to carry AAssistance Mysessions SScientists of Tikehau.
This association provides a location (the motu for our excursions), a house (on the motu) and its equipment (water, electricity, internet) as well as logistical support to host teams of researchers, scientists, or environmental protection workers who wish to undertake study and/or protection projects.
The themes are unlimited and can range from studies on coral, fish, birds, flora, turtle conservation, coconut crabs, or archaeology....
We have no doubt that each study will advance our understanding of our environment and teach us how to better protect it
